Welcome to Edward's Trust Sunrise

Cherry blossom in full bloom donated by one of our parentsEdward's Trust Sunrise is located in the heart of Edgbaston, two miles from Birmingham City Centre, and is well served by public transport.

It is a three-storey building that has been decorated and furnished in a homely fashion in predominantly gentle shades with toning curtains and soft furnishings to create a peaceful, restful atmosphere where visitors can feel relaxed and comfortable.

The Training Room is located on the ground floor, along with the waiting areas and a children's counselling room. On the second floor are three more counselling rooms, two designed specifically for children. A further counselling area can be found on the top floor.

What Do We Do?

Edward's Trust Sunrise offers more than bereavement counselling to the individuals and families we support. Counselling is an important part of our work - all the staff have counselling qualifications and we are an organizational member of the British Association for Counselling. We are 'Person Centered' and believe that this is fundamental to our work.

The death of a child and being bereaved in childhood results in grief that is special and unique. As each person is unique in their grief they need to be supported in a way that is relevant and meaningful for them. Whether the bereaved person is an adult or a child they need to feel that they are in contact with an attentive, accepting and caring listener.

The expression of grief comes in many different ways - it may be through talking or through some creative activity. Imagine the therapeutic value for a child or an adult, of being able to write, draw or create a memory book. The list of activities can be endless, from spending quiet time alone writing a poem to sharing in group activities with others.

It is often difficult for adults to contemplate the grief of a bereaved child. We emphasize just how much attention needs to be paid to bereaved children to prevent them feeling alone and isolated in their grief. Our staff have special skills, training and expertise in the supportive care of bereaved children.

It is not the passage of time that heals grief, but rather what happens during that time. The bereavement care offered at Edward's Trust Sunrise, enables the bereaved to begin to rebuild their lives.
