Nicky Broderick 'foiling around' after the Great North Run
In Nicky's own words, here is what she has to say about her endeavours:
"The day we found out that Lucas was poorly was around the time I received my number from the team at The Great North Run, so I guess you can call it a sign. I hadn't met Lucas at this point but I had seen many pictures of him sent on to me by his proud Dad Andrew who I work with. Lucas had been diagnosed with liver failure and needed a transplant. Everyone here at EDS just felt hopeless and wanted to do something to help. So I contacted Edward's Trust and chatted to Jeremy about sponsorship. Andrew had told us about the Trust and how he was staying right next to the hospital whilst Lucas was receiving treatment. I was then lucky enough to meet Lucas a week later - a real sweetheart! Andrew and Helen then took me over to Edward House (run by the Trust) and I was blown away at how homely and welcoming the House was, I hadn't realised places like this existed!!
Sadly Lucas lost his fight for life at just two months old.
The day of the run was a tough one due to the heat but, as always, all the fund raisers were in great spirits and ready for the off. Two hours and forty gruelling minutes later I crossed the finishing line with a big grin knowing that I had raised over £800 for Edwards Trust.
I would like to thank everyone that sponsored me and especially a big hug to Andrew and Helen for the support and encouragement they gave when going through such a difficult time themselves."
Thank you Nicky for all your efforts and thanks too to everyone who supported Nicky along the way.
Andrew & Helen Roaden have recently produced their first Fundraising Newsletter (Autumn 2005), here is a small excerpt from it:
Also, members of EDS (via Nicky Broderick running the Great North Run !!) donated £659 + Gift Aid to Edward’s Trust - which is the charity that runs the house that we stayed in while we were in Birmingham. We also bought a vacuum, stereo, DVD’s & videos for the occupants of Edward House. They provide a calm friendly atmosphere away from the hustle and bustle of life on the wards, as well as practical help and advice to families using their services.
If you would like to raise money through sponsorship, please contact us - we would be happy to help you
