London Marathon 2006

As you know, many people take part each year in the London Marathon and in doing so help raise substantial sums of money for worthwhile causes. The commitment, enthusiasm and sheer hard work that goes into the training, preparation and the race itself, is staggering and reflect the compassion many of the entrants have towards their chosen charity.

We were fortunate to have had two people running the London Marathon for us this year, both raising much needed money in aid of Edward's Trust.

Elaine O'connor and Tim Price both ran for Edward's Trust

Elaine O'connor and Tim Price (pictured above) were both keen to do the best they could for us. You can check out how they did and still help them achieve more by clicking on their name!

So how did they fare? We check up on them both on Thursday 27 April and this is what they had to say...

Elaine:

"My legs are just about back to normal now after a painful couple of days..... My time was 4 hours and 15 minutes, so I was very pleased as I only decided to do the marathon for a definite about 7 weeks ago! I wore a costume (loosely!) based on Sonic the Hedgehog with blue tights, red shoes, blue hair and white gloves... and of course a vest with the Edward's Trust logo ironed on the front. I felt great during the race up until about 18 miles when I started to get really tired. After 20 miles the legs were beginning to become heavier and pain kicked in at about 22 miles. With all the support of well wishers around the course though, I managed to finish and then have a well earned pint!

and Tim:

"I chose Edward's Trust as a charity largely because it was recommended to me by my friend John Bache, but also because it's clearly a worthwhile cause and is locally based. I completed the course in 2 hours 48 minutes - 471st place and was very happy with this as it was my first 'city' marathon. I've always wanted to run the London Marathon and have held it off because I knew how much training it would require to do a decent time. I completed the Snowdonia Marathon in October 2005. This went really well and gave me the encouragement to have a good go at the London marathon. On the day the race went really well. I ran with some friends of mine until 14 miles or so then I pushed on to the finish, thankfully avoiding 'the wall' at any point. It was a great experience. I have the option of doing it again next year as my time qualifies me for automatic entry. At this point I'm very tempted but we'll have to see!"

Many, many thinks to both of you for your tremendous efforts. Every penny you have raised will make a difference.

Our commiserations to two other likely lads, John and Stephen (you'll know who you are!!) who sadly had to pull out a few days before the Marathon due to injury. We hope you are both recovering well and no permanent damage has been done.
